Travel to Europe

Gertrude Stein said "America is my country and Paris is my hometown." Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - so full of rich history and culture, don't even mention the cheese! I personally find Parisians very pleasant and being in Paris, I automatically sense "Joie de Vivre".

This said, one hour from Paris is Versailles. The summer palace of the royals of the past; it is simply magnificent! The Palais, all the different rooms and all the art works are something to see in one's lifetime. Le Salon De l'Abondance, Le Salon De Venus, La Chappelle Royale and of course La Galerie Des Glaces. It is almost unbelievable that people used to live there. It is such a shame that Louis XIV used only so few of the rooms. The most impressive are the grounds of the state. They are immense and so well cared for. The special arts you can view at La Salle De Bal, La Colonnade and Les Bains D'Apollo among others. I highly recommend it as a destination in one of your travels. It is almost worth losing one's head over it!

One Centimeter Missing!

I joined the Revlon Walk “the fight against cancer” for the second time last week-end. The first time was over ten years ago. I raised a lot of money and walked it innocently and proudly, knowing I was doing something good. The second time, having gone through breast cancer my-self, was more personal and grounding experience for me! More people have joined the cause through the years. There were families wearing t-shirts with the pictures of the family member they had lost. Honoring and remembering their loved one this way, must also have a therapeutic affect on them. There were also families all walking together in support of their mother - the breast cancer survivor. It was so touching to watch all this take place. I remember when I was told by my surgeon who performed a surgical biopsy on me: “I have a good news and a bad one!” I was so confused! If it was cancer what could be the good news? The good news was that it was stage zero. The cancer had not spread through the duck. Now that I know what this means, I understand that I am one of the very lucky ones due to early detection. Another surgery and six weeks of radiation later, I have been going through hormone therapy for the past year and a half. At first it was hard to adjust to the mood swings triggered by the pills. Even though I am lucky my breasts don’t look that different, it is on my mind that one centimeter of flesh is missing in my left breast. Also the chance of the cancer coming back is more frightening than the first time. However the important thing is that I am still here! For me and all those women affected by this disease, life should not be about fear, but about survival and living it even more than before. Death does not matter. Eternity matters and eternity is now!

SXSW 2010

Another SXSW raps up in Austin, Texas. The festival of music for up and coming artists has changed over the years! The aspiring bands travel from all over America and all over the world in hopes of being seen and discovered. For the music executives is now less about signing new bands, but more about socializing, enjoying the parties and catching the headliners - usually older bands supporting their latest album. It is not all lost for the younger bands. They all comment that meeting other musicians is the best part of the experience. In many cases, it has resulted in bands finding touring partners and friendships that last a long time. The music industry is down! You can see the difference walking down Sixth Street or getting a drink at Four Seasons. Even with the decline of CD sales and with so many lay-offs taking place, the panels at SXSW has always been in denial in the past. This year the mood was different! It was about acceptance that things are not the same and it is going to be a different business. Let’s now find new ways to materialize this art form. The music industry executives know they have to make changes to survive. So many irreplaceable people and personalities have been forced to leave the business. It is just not the same! This affects the quality of music that is being recorded and makes this process more difficult than ever. With this said, the music industry might be different and changing, but music will never die! People will always seek the latest and coolest sound.

Fashion - The Last Ten Years!

Fashion in the last ten years has been such a mélange of all the previous decades! We really have not seen much that has been new and nothing that would define the start of this new century. Also no superstar designers have emerged into the fashion scene! In the past, every ten years, not only we were presented new fashion and new way of wearing cloths, but also the attitude to go with it. The roaring twenties, movie star style of the forties, disco seventies and of course who could forget the decadent eighties are just a few we can name. Even the nineties with the emergence of grunge music had its own vibe. Who knew heroine could be so chic!!! Not sure if fashion influenced the culture or vice versa! The last ten years everything went. You could take a piece from different decades of the past and wear it together. It has been more about how you put it all together that showed your personal style, and not one designer that did it for you! With the start of the second decade in the twenty first century, it will be interesting to watch and see if this is going to change. Are we going to experience once again new and must wear items and attitude, or just a few new trends that come and are gone by tomorrow or the next day!

Introducing Moi

This blog serves for me to introduce myself and to write down my opinion on various subjects and daily occurrence in the world. I have to admit that I am very opinionated and I enjoy discussing ideas, fashion trends, exciting places to see and most of all my favorite music. Music and artists give a theme to the background of our lives and set the mood. With all the social networking and blog sites, it is so nice and easy to stay anonymous and just write about what inspires me, makes me happy, laugh, angry, and what makes me want to live more… I invite you to comment and express your opinion too – in a fun and friendly way.
